Valentine's Day Card - OWH Unloved Card Supplies Challenge

I made this card from paper I never thought I'd use. I found my stack of "maybe later" paper for this weeks OWH Midweek Throwdown. It was a 6x6 sheet that came in a large pack - I really thought the stripes were just too harsh for a background on a card - and I don't know what in the world you could cut out of it using Cricut. I had almost resolved to cut the black strips out and use it up that way - but looking at it tonight I had another idea. And Bingo Valentine's Day Card!

Want to make your own?
You will need :
Black and White Striped Paper - with thick black stripes and thin white stripes
      Creative Memories Rotary Trimmer
      Plantin School Book Cricut Cartridge
      Creative Memories Precision Point Pen
      Creative Memories Tape Runner

1) Cut the 6x6 sheet down to 4.25 x 5.5 and then using the Creative Memories Rotary Trimmer.

2)Cut the edges of the stripes, stopping about 1/2" from the edges.

3) Using the Plantin School Book Cricut Cartridge, cut 6 1" hearts and 5 1/2" hearts from Red cardstock.

4) Tuck the hearts randomly underneath the slits in the 4.25" x 5.5" striped paper - so that the hearts are peaking out of the stripes and attach using the Precision Point Pen

5) Use the "Love You" Vertical stamp from "Hero Arts CL351" clear stamp set, stamping "love you" down the white stripes in black.

6) Flip the card front over, use the tape runner to make rows of adhesive along the cuts on the back of the paper - covering the tucked parts of the hearts - this will further secure your hearts so they don't sneak out.

7) Attach Card front to an A2 sized card

Never Buy a new Cricut Mat Again!!

Lets face it, Cricut mats aren't cheap - especially if you use your Cricut as much as I do. I found a way to prevent having to buy a new Cricut Mat Ever Again!!! Make your mat brand new in 3 easy steps

You will need Krylon Adhesive Remover and Krylon Easy-Tack - I found both at Michaels on the spray paint row. You can buy both for less than the price of a replacement mat - especially if you have one of those handy 40% off coupons!

1) Use the Krylon Adhesive Remover to get all of the old sticky off your mat - spray LIGHTLY, it will eat the color and grid off of you mat if you're not careful. Do this in a sink so that you can scrub, rinse and repeat until all of the old sticky is off. Don't stress if you don't get it all off, it's OK.

2) Tape around the edges of your mat - the green strip that you don't want to be sticky

3) Spray the mat with the Krylon Easy-Tack, let your newly sticky mat dry for about 5 minutes

Viola! You Have A New Mat :)

Slider Card How To

There are several Slider Methods around - this is he one I favor. You are more than welcome to use your own slider method on slider cards featured on this blog or take a stab at this one. I will use the Easter Egg Slider Card as the example, but you can adapt it to any card.

1. cut 2 strips about 1" wide and about 2/3 the length of the card from your scrap card stock - make sure it's think card stock so that it will hold up sliding repeatedly. For the Easter Egg Card - 1" x 3.5"

2. Cut slits in each strip - about 1/4" in from the sides. Stop slits 1/2" from the bottom of the strip and 1 1/2" from the top of the strip

3. Cut a 1/2" x 1 1/2" strip of card stock. Weave this piece of paper through the slits of the longer strip.

4. Attach the small strip to the back of the card about 1/2" from the top of the card.

5. Fold the top of the strip over the top of the card and attach to the back of the sliding piece of the card.

6. Adhere a piece of paper to the back of the card to hide the sliding mechanism

Hopefully this diagram will help.
